Matariki Information Report.

Hey guys! This is an information report on Matariki. I have taken the information from my slide deck and put it into an information report structure. Hope you enjoy it.

Matariki Information Report.

By Savanah.

Classification.

Matariki is a cluster of stars that are also known as the Pleiades. Matariki was created by the Weather God, Tāwhirimātea. He got so angry at the other gods, that he threw his eyes at space, and they were never seen again, but when they hit space, little did the gods know that the eyes had been turned into stars. This was the making of Matariki.

How is Matariki celebrated?

Matariki is a Māori celebration that many other religions and cultures celebrate all across the globe. Matariki is on June 24th every year and is celebrated in different ways. Matariki was celebrated for the upcoming year to prepare grounds for crops to grow in the next seasons. Matariki can also be celebrated for the Legend of how Matariki was made.

The 9 Stars of Matariki.

When Tāwhirimātea threw his eyes into space, they shattered into hundreds of pieces, creating stars. 500 to be exact, but only around 9 stars were visible from the earth, without a telescope. These stars were called Waitī, Waitā, Waipuna - ā - rangi, Tupuānuku, Tupuārangi, Ururangi, Hiwi - i - te - rangi, Pōhutukawa and Matariki. These stars are the ones visible from the earth without a telescope and are the stars that make up Matariki. The parents of the Matariki Pleidias are Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother and Ranginui, the Sky Father.

Why is Matariki important?

Matariki was very important back when there wasn’t advanced technology, so the Māori used the stars to help navigate and tell the seasons and when to plant crops. The stars were very useful back then when things weren’t so advanced.

Matariki Madness!

Hey guys! This week I have been learning above and beyond about Matariki in literacy! Who knew that there were so many different things to learn about Matariki. Did you know that When Tawhirimatea threw his eyes out to space, they shattered into 500 pieces, but only 9 are visible from earth? Well, now you do! In this presentation, you will find out about the Maori legend and what happened to the stars and their names and loads more! Hope you enjoy it!

Google Summit 2021!

Hey guys! This is a blog post on the Google Summit from 2021! Today I will be sharing the things that I have been learning, what was challenging and what I enjoyed the most. I think the most challenging was the Animaker Animation. It was challenging to figure out how to use it and what to do, but I got there in the end!

The most fun toolkit I attended was probably Wedeo and Upgrade your google slides. Wedeo is super fun to make videos, GIFs and more! You can use Wedeo to edit videos and create ones from scratch!

I never knew that you could animate text on google slides! Slide decks just became a whole lot more fun! Animating your text and slides can make your slide decks more interesting. You can the slides fly out of the sky, or make your text zoom in and out! It's super fun, and I think I'll definitely use animated text in my future slide decks.

I learned using Canva with infographics, posters, postcards, slides and more! Canva has taught me that you can do more with your information and be more creative with your knowledge.

I had lots of fun with Google Summit 2021 this year, and hope to do ti again soon!

Pukeko Life Cycle Chart.

Hey guys! This is a Life Cycle chart on Pukekos. It tells you what a pukeko starts off as, and what it becomes when it's fully grown. Enjoy!

Pukeko information report.

Hey guys! This is an information repost on the native NZ Pukeko. This information repost will tell you everything about pukekos. Enjoy!

Pukeko Information Report.

Classification

Pukeko’s are a native NZ bird with distinctive blazing red & blue feathers. They can grow up to 51cm big and have a standard lifespan of 3 - 6 years. The longest lifespan of a Pukeko in NZ is 9 years.

Habitat

The Pukeko lives throughout NZ, but are quite common by rivers, streams or swamps, close by to open grassy areas like fields or pastures.

Diet

The Pukeko is mostly vegetarian, but also eat invertebrates, eggs, small frogs, chicks and mammals, especially in the Pukeko’s breeding season where chicks are fed protein-rich animals.

Reproduction

The normal Pukeko usually lays 4 - 6 eggs, but can lay up to 18 eggs! They started mating in August, through to March the next year. The Pukeko has a highly variable mating system. When multiple breeding female Pukeko all lay their eggs in the same nest, it is a phenomenon called “Joint laying.”

Special Features.

Since the Pukeko is a bird, it has a few things that are special about it like, it can fly, though when running from predators, it would prefer to hide, but would fly if it was in danger. The pukeko also has a beak, great for feeding her young and catching food as well for itself.

Appearance

The Pukeko is very noticeable with its bright red beak and legs, blazing blub feathers, white feathers underneath their tail and a black head and upperparts. They are easy to spot for their predators, which makes it harder to stay alive in the wild.

Behaviour

The Pukeko is territorial when approached by other animals or bird colonies, but apart from that, they’re completely docile and friendly to approach amongst and watch.

The Dream...

Hey guys! This is a piece of writing that I have been doing in literacy about me meeting my past, present and future self ... in a train ... supposed to be looking for my chihuahua. WEIRD!

I’m looking …

For my chihuahua. But how did I get on a train? And why does it smell like fish?!

Suddenly, I look up …

And find myself standing in front of three people that oddly look like me…

I pick up three passports and read through them.

NAME: Savanah JR

AGE: 1

LIKE TO DO: Like to cover self in icky stuff (Don’t know what it is, but it doesn’t smell very pleasant…)

KIND: Past self. I think…

(I think these passports are of my past, present and future selves…)

NAME: Savanah

AGE: 10 (Weirdly…)

LIKE TO DO: Watch Minecraft in fact. (Supa Weird.)

KIND: Present.

NAME: Savanah SNR (Or Savanoid in her time.)

AGE: 1,000,000 years old! ( But looks surprisingly young.)

LIKE TO DO: Haunt rattle dolls and play with robots.

KIND: Future (My future self is creepy…)

I look up from reading the weirdly satisfying, interesting passports and the past, present and future selves started to fade. Then, there was a streak of lightning that hit the train and BANG! CRASH! BOOM! The train topples over with a huge CRUNCH!

(Gasp!) I wake up. I’m at home. In my bed, with my chihuahua… weird. Maybe it was a dream. Or was it…..

Koala Information Report.

Hey guys! This is an information report on koalas that I have been working on in literacy for the week. Hope you enjoy!

Koala’s

Koalas are a kind of mammal called Marsupials with front pockets to carry babies. They are quite slow but can still be pretty cool.

Koalas are found in Eastern Australia, Victoria and a small part of South Australia and are most common in the Eucalyptus forest. They spend most of their time huddled to the branches, sleeping, otherwise, they are eating.

Koalas rely on their eucalyptus tree leaves to fuel them with food, and sometimes they vary on different tree leaves such as lophostemon, melaleuca and corymbia.

Koalas are Marsupials, a group of mammals that reproduce highly underdeveloped babies sexually. The Koala baby, the joey, sleep in the mother’s pouch at the front and feeds off the mother’s milk that she has produced.

The Koala has an amazing grip which is great for clutching to the branches of trees to sleep and they have extremely sharp claws to grab leaves to eat. Koalas have an amazing sleep time, for they can sleep up to 16 hours a day! The rest of the time of their day is usually spent eating.

Reptiles.

Hey guys! In Literacy, I have been working on an information report about reptiles and I have been making a slide about the questions in the report.

The Hairdresser, The mother and her Baby.

Hey Guys! This is the 2nd fable I have been working on called "The hairdresser, The mother and her Baby" It's about a baby tiger that is scared to go to the hairdresser, but her mother helps her to be brave about the hairdresser. I hope you enjoy it!

The Hairdresser, The Mother and her Baby.

One day, a baby tiger needed to go to the beautician, but he was too scared to go.

The baby tiger’s mother took her baby to the beautician across the road and booked an appointment.

They had to wait a little bit but finally, it was the baby tigers turn. He kicked up a BIG stink and started screaming, wailing and crying so loud, the beautician could barely hear herself think! When he finished his tantrum, he asked his mother, “Can I go to the bathroom?” He whimpered softly. “Of course.” His mother replied in a voice soft as silk. Before you could say anything, he was off.

When he came back, the beautician asked him to sit down in the seat. “No…” He spoke, frightened. “Can I go to the bathroom again?” He asked again. “Sure… but don’t take too long.” She informed. Once again, the baby tiger went to the toilet and waited for a bit until he decided it was ok to come out.

When he came out, his mother was outside, waiting for him with a worried look on her face. “Why do you keep coming to the toilet?” She asked. “Well I-I…” He stuttered, scared of what his mother was going to do to him as punishment. “I’m just scared…” He finally answered. “Oh, If you just told me I could have helped you.” She sighed. “You know, when I was a kid, I was frightened of the beautician and hid in the toilet like you! But when my mum told me that it was OK, she made me feel Ok. there is nothing wrong with the beautician. It’s fun!” She reassured him.

The baby went out with his mother to get his hair done, and it was great. He had a wonderful time at the beautician and had a great new look!

Always listen to your parents. (THEY ARE ALWAYS RIGHT.)

Behind the the scenes of "The Boy who cried Wolf." : Who the characters really are...

I have been learning about Fables in my literacy class.

In "The Boy who cried Wolf," I think the villain is the boy.

Why I think the boy is the villain:

  •  He tricked the villagers into coming over, thinking that there was a wolf attacking the sheep
  • He tricked the villagers TWICE! TWICE!!! Which is VERY - I mean VERY EVIL!!!!! 😈
  • ...... I don't have any other points.... BUT STILL!

Now, let's move onto the next character - or should I say characters! I think the villagers are the heroes

And why do I think the villagers are the heroes?
  • They never came the third time that the boy cried out "WOLF!!!" because they knew that they were being tricked the second time around.

The sheep and the wolf are really just side - characters, and they don't serve much purpose in the fable, apart from when the wolf came out at the end of the Fable and gobbled up the sheep and then ran away into the forest, while the sheep are always there, just never mentioned.

Click below to go to a google form about what you think about the characters!

Enjoy!

The Sloth and the Badger.

Hey guys! This is a fable draft that I have created in literacy. I hope you enjoy it!

The Sloth and the Badger.

One day, a Sloth had to go to work.

The Sloth finds a fitness club, run by a Badger and decides to join the club the next day.

On the Sloth’s first day at the fitness club, he slept in too late and came to work very late.

The next day, the Sloth slept in late again and was even later than yesterday.

“Are you OK?” asked the Badger with a worried tone. “You keep falling asleep at work” The Badger continued. “Well…. I’m fine. Just a rough night.” The Sloth answered with a very sleepy drowsy voice. The Badger soon realized what was going on and proceeded to help him the following night.

The next morning, the Sloth woke up on time, and got to work early! “So, how did it go?” Asked the Badger, worried about the answer. “I feel great awesome!” Answered the Sloth enthusiastically. “That alarm clock you made was so helpful.” The Sloth added with a very happy tone.

Have a good night’s rest and a better day will come ahead.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

Hey guys! This is my slide on what I want to be when I grow up! I hope you enjoy reading about what I wanna be when I grow up. Byeee!

Holiday recount.

Hey guys! This is My holiday Recount. Hope you Enjoy!

Holiday Recount

By Savanah.

You think that I had a plain, normal holiday, where I just stay at home, hear screaming 24/7 from my brother, Apollo, and my sister, Emmie. NO. I had the best Holiday ever. Lemme tell ya a story…

In the school holidays, my mum surprised the family with a fun tiki tour trip! She told us to pack a bag or two, to get ready to go on our Tiki Tour Trip!

Finally, Finally! The day has come! The day that we are going on our family Tiki Tour Trip! We all hauled in the car, and started our adventure!

Once we got in the car, mum told us where we were going first! We were going to Kaiapoi first! About 15 minutes later, we arrived at Kaiapoi!

The first thing we did was look around the town centre. We found a shopping centre - but it was crap Pretty Average… Then we looked around a little bit more and found a restaurant and ate lunch. I had pancakes for lunch and they were disgusting.

Then we did a bit more exploring around the town center. My stepdad, Pablo got a new phone a couple weeks ago and needed phone screen protectors so we stopped at a junk store and they sold screen protectors there so Pablo bought some for his phone but later on he realised that they were terrible and the guy had evilly ripped him off.

After that, we did a little more browsing and then we continued our adventure!

On our way, Mum explained where we were going next! We were going to the place that my mum grew up as a kid at! She grew up in Amberly and lived at a motel. Their parents (My grandparents) were the Managers of the Motel and had run it for many years.

We were on our way to Amberly when we came across a very new and modern suburb called “Pegasus Town.” We stopped there to have a look and it was pretty fancy! It had a preschool, a playground and a mini shopping centre - with an ice cream shop - AND a pizzeria! We stopped at the playground but my brother fell asleep so my mum suggested something, we get ice cream! My mum and Pablo went to the place and bought us ice cream. By the time that they did that Apollo woke up. Then we drove over to the playground to eat our ice cream and play. Then we went and continued our journey to Amberley.

When we arrived, we were very excited! There was so much to explore and do in Amberly!

A few minutes later, we arrived at the Motel, Delhaven, Mum was explaining lots of cool information about the  motel. Like how the big, black shed on the gravel driveway beside the campervan car park, was an indoor pool when she was a child. Mum rushed into the reception room and whisked away with the room key. The receptionist lady said that she would bring us a port - a - cot for Apollo to sleep in soon to assemble. We drove over to the Deluxe Apartment that we were going to stay in and get settled.

We started to unpack everything and look around the room! My sister and I had to share a room - which is okay. At least I didn’t have to share a room with my brother! My mum said that there was a playground that I could play at later.

Later on, when we were all settled down, my mum said that we were going out later to explore. So I said if I could go and play at the playground and she said yes. So I put my shoes on and went over.

When I got there, (Which did NOT take very long…) I saw a Spring - Free Trampoline! I immediately took my shoes and off hopped on! I almost landed my very first front flip! A little while later I got off and went back.

About 1 hour later, we left in the van to go explore. I won’t bore you with all the details though. All I’ll tell you is that it was kinda boring…

It’s night now, and we are having dessert! We have………………

Skittles, Chocolate, Toffee Pops and more! We were sooo tired!

The next morning, we woke up early and the first thing I did was… Play on my mum’s phone! Then we had muffin splits for breakfast! They were so good! And again, I won’t bore you with all that stuff…..

Before we left we went to the park my mum always went to to play at! Chamberlain park! Lots of stuff there! By the time we got home we were all pooped.

This was definitely the best weekend holiday of my life!
